RISE Article Research & APA Boot Camp: Citations from Google Scholar

SAVE THIS GUIDE AS IT IS THE LINKING SOURCE FOR APA CITATION BUILDING

Using Google Scholar Citations

Google Scholar has a good (but not perfect) AI citation generator.

AI Generated citations MUST ALWAYS BE DOUBLE-CHECKED! I cannot state this often enough.

Frequent AI generated errors include, but are not limited to:

  • Authors formatted incorrectly
  • Volume and/or issue numbers missing
  • Article number is missing
  • Page numbers are missing
  • DOI is missing
  • Incorrect citation elements are in italics, capitalized, or in bold

Look at the PDF or HTML of the article for any missing information. Add as appropriate.

Google Scholar has the highest accuracy of citation formatting with peer-reviewed articles. If you use a source other than a peer-reviewed article (for example: a chapter from an ebook), its accuracy goes way down.
