Monument Project: Anti-Irish Incidents of the 19th Century

The Introduction of the text reads: "After nearly forty-four years of silence, I consider it wise to present to the public the inner history of the Fenian Raid of 1866, where an incompetent military officer was entrusted with the lives of a small body of men, and, who by failure in the performance of a sacred duty, may prove a wholesome and useful lesson to commanders of troops in the field."

This 1865 Congress marked a key organizational step, showing how serious and structured the movement had become among Irish Americans.
*It helped formalize the Brotherhood’s political and military goals.
*It showed their readiness to fund and support military action against British control in Ireland.
*Raising funds through bonds (so-called “Fenian Bonds” or “Irish Republic Bonds”).
*Planning for military training and acquisition of weapons.
This reflects a period when Irish Americans were not just offering moral support—they were actively planning rebellion.
